12 second window
If you accept postings of up to, 15 seconds, then there were a 12 second window you could slide along the length of the file, then that would allow users to remove the first pause before the video starts and they start talking...and it may help with things being cut off at the end (like in the about us videos, for example).
The stuff at the end is more important than the pause at the start, and this minor edit would help make the postings look a bit cleaner (instead of forcing people to rush at the instant the device starts recording)

A countdown helps for sure, the Audioboo app has that countdown and it really helps, but the 'window' that Chandler suggested sounds much better.

i like the idea of a countdown better. personally i think that if you had a window as described I'd keep ending up with 13seconds of useful stuff that I'd then mangle or I'd end up waitng to make sure i was within the 12 seconds and only have 10 seconds :)
If the countdown isn't there I'll add it as a new suggestion. -

not a bad idea. thanks for suggesting this. what do you think about a countdown before it starts recording? like 3 - 2 - 1 record... that way you can be more prepared for the recorder to start.
